a school in fishtown

Statement of program

This project is a three legged stool,

-to stand on.

The site visible from each of three distinctive neighborhoods lays in a neutral zone belonging neither to one nor to all. The dissimilar identities of each community have left this site in uncertainty.

This project, through historical, contextual, and vernacular methods adjusts this no man’s land into land for everyone.

Neighborhoods and cities evolve around sustaining spaces.

The Acropolis of Athens, the Paris Opera House, Castel Sant'Angelo, the Reichstag, all function as a central space for community, events, and most significantly a place for people to come together.

The principal objective of this design is to create a convening framework for three diverse communities to engage, creating links spurred by the youth of the community.

Each neighborhood is provided access, through a characteristic gateway,

Each neighborhood composing one leg of the stool.

Each connection links the three hearts of the communities,

Each with its distinct accent,

Together to be one stronger, more stable, seat.

The architecture provides a podium,

The community an audience,

And the students a voice.
